An officer responded to McPhee Center at 11:19 a.m. after learning of a suspicious male sitting in the lobby area. The man was reported to be wearing a hospital wristband.

The officer approached the man, who then verbally identified himself. The man said he just left a local hospital and was trying to find Positive Avenues, a support facility in downtown Eau Claire.

About two months ago, the man said he walked from Illinois to Duluth, Minn. to look at some property he was considering buying. He said his foot hurt, so he walked to the hospital for an examination. After being checked out by the hospital, the man said he arrived at the university when he couldn't find Positive Avenues. He was looking for assistance to get him a bus ticket back to Illinois, he said.

The officer called Positive Avenues, who advised the officer to bring the man to their office so he could eat lunch. The officer gave the man a ride to the downtown location then requested the Positive Avenues staff help the man with his transportation needs, if at all possible.
