Eau Claire had one murder in 2008 on Clairemont Ave. in a road rage altercation. From 2007 to 2008, Chippewa Falls, Menomonie and Altoona all showed an increase in violent and property crimes. Eau Claire, on the other hand, showed a decrease in violent and property crimes from 2007 to 2008, according to FBI crime statistics for Wisconsin.

Violent and property crimes consist of burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson. Nationwide, there has been a nearly four percent drop in murder and manslaughter, according to the FBI data.
