On Saturday, the UW-Eau Claire cross country teams traveled to Decorah, Iowa, to compete in the Luther All-American Invite. While both the men's and women's teams practice together and are both coached by third-year head coach Dan Schwamberger, their results varied greatly.
Both teams competed in a field of eight, but the women took third place, while the men finished seventh. Leading the way for the women was senior Kelly Palmer, who finished with a time of 19 minutes and 52 seconds - good enough for No. 12 overall.
Other top 25 finishers for the Lady Blugolds were junior Maria Peloquin, No. 17 overall, sophomore Kacey Rindy, No. 20 overall, and sophomore Teresa Coughlin, No. 23 overall. Finishing just outside of the top 25 with a time of 20:20 was sophomore Britta Nelson.
On the men's team, freshman Connor Rafferty led the team with a 21:44 finish, good enough for No. 21 overall. Sophomore Michael Borglin finished No. 27 overall, while three more Blugolds finished inside the top 35.
The two teams will travel to St Paul, Minn., to compete in the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invite on September 26. The women are currently ranked No. 10 nationally, while the men are ranked No. 31.
