For the last five years, senior Dan Beyer has put on jersey number 42 and proudly stepped onto the basketball court in Zorn Arena, adding to the success of the Blugolds' basketball team.

"I really enjoyed (playing) a lot," Beyer said. "I met a lot of great people. Not only did I improve a lot as a basketball player, but I definitely matured a lot throughout the process."

Beyer has been playing basketball since he was seven years old and played center for a little more than four years at UW-Eau Claire. He was a medical red shirt during his freshman year, after injuring his shoulder while attempting to grab a rebound. This injury allowed him to play another season as a senior.

Beyer led the team in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game, and rebounding, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. With the end of his career, he is ranked eighth on the Blugolds' all-time scoring list with 1,550 points.

Beyer was selected for the

All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team in March for a second year in a row, which he says is one of his greatest accomplishments during his college career.

Another favorite memory of his is during a game at UW-Whitewater, where he scored 40 points in a single game.

"The room seemed big; I was just making shots," Beyer said. "I didn't even really realize until after the game when they told me I had scored 40 points."

While this was Beyer's final season playing for Eau Claire, he feels very proud of all the hard work he's put into it, especially with setting an example for the younger players.

"Being the senior, I just tried to take a little bit more of the leadership role and help prepare the freshmen for their next three years and set the tone to work hard and to keep improving and just keep winning," he said.

One of the reasons Beyer came to Eau Claire was because of coach Terry Gibbons.

"He's a really good guy and I trusted him and I really enjoyed playing with him for all five years," Beyer said. "I have nothing but positive things to say about him."

For the future, Beyer plans to attend a camp at the end of the summer and will try his luck overseas in basketball.

"I'd like to keep playing while I can, as long as I can, while I'm still young enough to do so," Beyer said. "Eventually I'd like to own … a sport's bar type place or my own business."

Beyer is graduating in May with a degree in business administration and a minor in management.

Beyer has learned a lot of things that he can take with him off the court, he said.

"Leadership skills that I've learned, being a two year captain," he said. "Working in teams, hard work … time management. I think basketball really helped me prepare for the future."
