Students who are undeclared will have a few chances to check out different majors at the Majors and Student Services Fair from noon to 1:30 p.m. on March 6 and 27 in the Council Fire Room in Davies Center. Representatives from different departments, including faculty, staff and students will be on hand to talk to students who want to learn more about the many academic programs on campus.
Admissions counselor Jason Mathwig said he's hoping many students can stop by.
"It's just a good day to come around and check it out."
He added any student is welcome, but that they are targeting undeclared students.
According to the advertisement for the fair, this event is for students to talk to professors and to see what kind of jobs could be available within a certain major. Also, it would be a good opportunity to get to know students and find out their experiences in a certain program. Undeclared students will also have an opportunity to get a more in-depth look at the different major programs on campus.
Almost every major will be represented at the fair. Also, this year the Admissions Office, which is sponsoring the fair, decided to add some Student Services departments to the event.
Mathwig said they are trying to "spark people's interests" and get them excited about different programs.
"It's a good service for students to get all the information at once," Mathwig said.
Mathwig said this year, Admissions is more aggressively marketing the event in order to get more people to come and wanted to get more exposure to current students. He added the Student Services part of the event is somewhat similar to the Blugold Organizational Bash, but the atmosphere is much more relaxed. Also, the organizations involved will be there to make students aware of their services.
Mathwig said there will be representatives from Advising, Academic Skills Center, Career Services, Financial Aid, Housing and Residence Life, University Recreation and many others.
"(There will be) a good variety of different services," he said. "Students can come in if you have a few minutes for a relaxed atmosphere, make certain contacts, (and) get info."
He added people should stop by even if they have already picked a major, just to see a professor they might know. Free popcorn will be served, which Mathwig said would be prefect over the lunch hour. He added students might see a program that they didn't know about beforehand.
"It might be good to find out something that they might not have known was on campus."
