Battle of the bulge: Time affects results for columnist

I have learned many things these past two weeks: 1.) 24 hours is not enough time in a day to get everything done; 2.) the expression pain is beauty is, alas, true; and 3.) healthy food is expensive.

Too much to do, too little time
Though it is only the start of the spring semester, I am feeling exhausted. My initial goal was to work out three days a week. My first week into my battle flat-out bombed. I had a capstone proposal due at the start of the week that I had thought about but my plans weren't as in depth as they needed to be. I managed to get to Crest early in the week to put in a good two hours. My first hour was spent on the elliptical and treadmill where I burned roughly 500 calories, at least that's what the machines told me. The last hour was spent pumping some cold, hard iron and ab crunches. I definitely was feeling the Arnold Schwarzenegger accent after leaving the gym.

Due to time commitments and pure exhaustion, that was the only time that week I made it to the gym ... pathetic, I know. However, today, I busted out my agenda planner for the first time in about a year and started penciling myself in and yesterday hit the swimming pool to do some laps. 'I will be back' ... in the gym this week!

My plan heading into my past two weeks was to work out three days a week, which clearly went very well for me, and then also make use of my Jazz Dance I and Badminton classes for extra work-out time.

Two classes and a really big hill
I am very fortunate, however, to have redeemed myself a little bit these past two weeks with my two physical education classes. I get some pretty decent workouts in everyday of the week with Plies, Releves, Prances, Degages and some pretty intense sit-ups from my dance class, as well as some smashing sweat from badminton.

Another thing that redeems me from slacking on working out is the hill. Both of my physical activity classes are in McPhee and require me to walk up the hill. I avoided that hill as much as I could freshman year when I lived in the dorms, but now I do avoid being lazy and brave it.

Green beans for how much a pound?
I really love eating healthy foods, they're delicious ... and I was definitely the kid who didn't mind finishing her plate of vegetables. But, do you know how much it costs to eat vegetables, fruits and grilled chicken? It's a lot of money. The Kraft EasyMac and Ramen that I used to consume freshman year was much cheaper. No wonder America is as obese as it is. Luckily, I'm going to be getting paid in a week and will hopefully get through the week with the healthy food I have.

My results from these past two weeks weren't as bad as I thought. I didn't lose any weight but also I didn't gain any, which is a big plus. In the words of Chris Farley, all I'll have to do is "get back on the right track."
