There is one thing season seven American Idol-winner David Cook says he wants those attending his concerts to walk away thinking - that they got way too much for their money.
Cook will give the students of UW-Eau Claire the opportunity to experience this feeling as he will be appearing in the University Activities Commission sponsored concert on Feb. 18 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center as part of the mtvU presents David Cook's Declaration Tour 2009.
Tickets for the general admission show went on sale at 7 a.m. on Feb. 4 for $10 as part of a pre-sale for Eau Claire students and the 650 available tickets sold out within one hour of going on sale said senior Nicole Feldkamp UAC co-concert chair. The quick sellout, which Feldkamp said was an hour quicker than what UW-Green Bay experienced for its Cook concert taking place on Feb. 20, was something Cook took as a huge compliment.
"I think that people are anticipating the show," Cook said. "It really puts the pressure on us to come out and deliver and I can't wait to come out to Eau Claire."
Cook, whose first post-Idol self-titled album was released in November 2008, began planning his first post-Idol solo tour just after finishing the "American Idol 2008 Live Tour." While discussing ideas of what to do and taking time to rest and recoup vocally, Cook brought up the idea of doing a college tour and said it was the perfect fit for him.
"The big acts from like the 70s used to do it," Cook said. "To me, like, there's some nostalgia in it, something I'd really like to do to get back to my roots."
As a result, the promoters for Cook contacted UAC and thought they may be interested in booking a show, Feldkamp said. UAC, who puts out six concerts in an academic year, was more than interested, senior UAC co-concert chair Ben Rindone said, but he expected a big name like Cook to want to perform in Zorn Arena and for a price that exceeded UAC's budget. But that wasn't the case.
