The greatest bond a mother could have with her child is made through breast feeding. Now this bonding might soon be protected by law.

A bill was recently introduced to prohibit anyone from interfering with mothers who breast-feed in public or private, according to a Feb. 9 Associated Press article.

Breast feeding gives babies antibodies that protect them against viruses and bacteria. As for the mothers, they are able to return to their pre-pregnancy weight faster, and have less chance of breast cancer and osteoporosis, according to the article.

This bill will also help women who feel uncomfortable breast-feeding in public by giving them peace of mind knowing they are now protected and can feed their babies freely.

In the article, state Senate President Fred Risser (D-Madison) said he decided to sponsor the bill after hearing from a constituent who was ordered to leave a mall or go into a bathroom to breast-feed her child.

Wisconsin will be the 42nd state to obtain this bill.

It is about time Wisconsin becomes a part of this natural part of life. It's shocking it took so long to get to the bill, knowing that 41 states are already protecting mothers.

However, the enforcement tactics are vague at this point. The bill would protect mothers breast-feeding in malls, restaurants and other public places; violators could get fines up to $200.

This bill will give mothers the choice of whether or not they want to breast-feed in public.

A lot of people might feel uncomfortable looking at a woman breast-feeding. However a woman can also feel more uncomfortable having people look at them, but mothers can't decide when the baby is hungry. Mothers can't make them wait until they are in a private place.

What mothers do is no hobby, breast-feeding is something mothers do to keep their babies healthy.
