Women's Basketball
The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team opened play this weekend with two victories.
The lady Blugolds, ranked 22nd in the nation, started with a 64-43 win over Ripon College on Friday. After trailing 2-0 early, Eau Claire took off and didn't think twice, leading 35-15 at the half.
Senior Heidi Arciszewski led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Hannah Mesick added 16 points and six rebounds of her own.
On Saturday the Blugolds took on Concordia University and trailed 27-23 at halftime. After a 20-1 run in the second half Eau Claire took control of the game and went on to a convincing 69-47 win. Arciszewski had a game high 26 points.
Men's Basketball
The men's basketball team went 1-1 in two games this weekend.
On Friday night they took on Ohio Wesleyan in a close matchup. Both teams battled back and forth but Wesleyan ended up coming away with an 87-78 victory.
With 21 points, sophomore Ryan Shea was the leading scorer for Eau Claire.
Saturday evening the Blugolds took on Staten Island (NY) and won their first game of the year. Winning 100-67, Eau Claire scored 100 points for the first time since the season opener last season.
Shea led the way again with 16 points. Senior Dan Beyer and junior Colin Boone each added 15 points of their own.
