Student body should take a look at Blugold name

Issue date: 11/6/08 Section: Letters
What is a Blugold? The question rages and raises many ideas. I've heard this quizzical question uttered many times over my time spent at the university.
I'd like to suggest that our student body takes an analytical look at the name. Blugold. Blugold - aka Water.
Just in case it has passed recognition, there is a river that runs through Eau Claire and right next to campus. It has played a very significant role in the development of Eau Claire as a community. From the early days of the logging industry, to the current days of social activities, the Chippewa River has been an invaluable resource to Eau Claire. It could only be described as Blugold.
So, what's a Blugold? See above. Does it make us sound ferocious when facing adversaries on the sports field? Probably not. Perhaps it takes the abundant spirit of one fine feathered friend to pull it all together (and I'm not naming any names, Casey Driscoll).
