At 1:20 p.m., an officer was assigned to investigate a hit-and-run vehicle crash in the metered lot in front of Davies Center. Upon arrival, the officer met with two witnesses who said they were near the entrance of Davies Center when they heard a loud scraping noise.
Looking in the direction of sound, the witnesses saw a black truck strike an SUV that was legally parked in a metered stall. The truck was attempting to pull into an open stall on the right side of the SUV, when the left corner of the truck struck the right rear corner of the SUV. The truck then backed out of the stall and left the area. The witnesses were confident the driver would had to have known the vehicle had been struck from the noise and the way the SUV rocked after impact.
Both witnesses said they would recognize the truck if they saw it again and gave statements to the police. The SUV belonged to a university faculty member, who spoke with police later in the day.
