Morones had a lot to say about the families broken apart by illegal immigration and shared many of his stories with students on Monday. Students and faculty filled The Dulany in Davies Center to hear him speak. The event was organized as a part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Many students attended the event because of class requirements or extra credit, but a surprising amount of students showed up out of curiosity. Junior Calvin Grier, a Spanish education major said he came to see Morones in hope of learning more about the issue.
"It was good to hear what he had to say about immigration," Grier said. "The previous opinion on (the issue) is that here are too many restrictions on immigrants coming into the country."
Border Angels began when Morones began delivering food and water to people living in poor conditions near the border. Morones said that eventually branched out and Border Angels is now a non-profit organization hoping to end crimes against humanity.
"It's absolutely wrong that these people are dying because they want a better life," Morones said.
He said two to three people die trying to cross the border every day. Morones also attempted to clarify and say that the Border Angels were not there to help people to cross the border, but to help them stay alive.
Another issue Morones touched on was racism and the people who have been out to stop the work of the Border Angels.
"We're all of the same race, the human race," he said.
Morones said that their main issues are with people involved in the Minuteman Project, a civilian enforced program to end illegal immigration.
"The only thing (the minutemen) prove is that racism is alive and well today," Morones said.
Morones also made it clear that there are plenty of opportunities for students to help out.
"There are people from UW-Madison who have driven down to help with Border Angels," he said. "I would like to start a Border Angels chapter here."

Marones doesnt tell the truth. 2-3 people do not not in the deserts per day, thats a large over statement on his part. Also, the Minutemen are not racists, but your average American standing up to tell the US govt to enforce her own laws. (Continued…)

Enrique Morones is a lying Mexican Reconquista zealot. A racist to the core. He lies about everything. He's a hardcore Marxist to boot. He thinks the Southwest belongs to corruption-bloated Mexico and that Mexicans have the right to sneak in to squat and filch. (Continued…)

From Jim Gilchrist, President and Founder of the Minuteman Project:
Since Morones brought up the issue of needless deaths due to illegal immigration, and the issue of racism in America, let's talk about them. (Continued…)

The US government makes it impossible for most immigrants to obtain visas. It is simply too costly for the average Mexican or South American immigrant. (Continued…)

Morones is a moron, he wants me and others who work for a living, to pay taxes and "give" free benefits to any illegal immigrant who can make it across the border without dying. (Continued…)
