Men's Cross Country
The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team took third place out of 19 teams this weekend as they hosted the Blugold Open.
The Blugolds finished only 10 points out of first place behind St. Thomas (Minn.) and St. Olaf (Minn.). The Blugolds went into the meet ranked 24th in the nation and looked to improve on that ranking.
Senior Jules Miller paced the Blugold runners as he finished seventh overall with a time of 25:37. Junior Chris Wirtz finished behind him finishing 13th overall with a time of 25:51. Junior Brent Kann and senior Andy Warren both finished with a time of 25:55. Kann finished 16th and Warren finished 17th.
The Blugold runners will now have an off-week before their next meet. They will head off to West Salem for the UW-La Crosse Drews/Neubauer Invite, which will take place Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m.
Women's Cross Country
The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team headed into the Blugold Open ranked second in the nation in Division III, placing third. There was a field of 16 teams at the invite.
The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities took first place while the University of Minnesota-Duluth took second. Right behind the Blugolds in fourth was St. Olaf College (Minn.) and Winona State (Minn.) placed fifth.
The Blugolds had five of their seven runners finish in the top 20. Freshman Alyssa Sybilrud led the Blugolds with a time of 23:15 and finished in 11th place. Sophomore Molly Woodford was right behind her with a 12th place finish and a time of 23:22. Junior Jenna Smith took 14th place and finished with a time of 23:34. Seniors Beth Lutz and Ellie Lutz finished 19th and 20th, respectively.
The Blugolds will be off next weekend. On Oct. 18 they will travel to West Salem for the UW-La Crosse Drews/Neubauer Invite.
