It was another solid performance by the defense, but for the first time this year, the offense clicked on all cylinders. The defense held on for the shutout as the Blugolds won 34-0.
The Blugolds scored on their first five drives of the game and held a 27-0 lead at halftime. Junior kicker/punter Craig Kolb got the team on the board in the first quarter with a 30-yard field goal.
Junior quarterback Kyle Paulson was in a groove all day and threw three consecutive touchdown passes.
Paulson finished the game with 220 yards passing and three touchdowns.
Junior running back Corey Sartorelli did not go over 100 yards rushing for the first time all season. Sartorelli was not bothered by this, however, as he was quick to give credit to the passing game.
"Our passing game was phenomenal today, KP (Paulson) had a great game, our receivers had a great game, our O-line gave him plenty of time to throw the ball," Sartorelli said.
Eight different Blugold players had catches in the game. That is a credit to Paulsen spreading the ball around.
Head coach Todd Glaser was happy with the all-around effort of his team Saturday.
"We were clicking on offense, defense and special teams today. And we need to continue to get better every game and every practice," Glaser said.
Glaser was also happy with the team not turning the ball over on Saturday.
"We didn't turn the ball over, and if you can do that, that's a great thing," Glaser said.
Senior cornerback Craig Polifka was happy with the team's overall effort, especially the defense. Polifka feels like it was a good way to get ready for next week's game.
"It helps our confidence a lot going into La Crosse," Polifka said.
Polifka also contributed an interception that he returned for a touchdown in the game. The play came at the beginning of the second half and helped ice the game for the Blugolds.
The team was helped by a loud crowd that came to support the team for Homecoming. It was a great day to go and support the team and that showed as it was easily the highest attendance of the season for the Blugolds. None of that came as a surprise to Glaser.
"It's an awesome atmosphere, we've always said this is the best place to play in the conference because of the atmosphere," said Glaser. "The fans are great, the band's great, it's just a great place to play at."
The Blugolds will be in action again next weekend as they travel to Winona, Minn., where they will take on UW-La Crosse. La Crosse's field is under construction this year so they are playing their home games in Winona. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
