The Blugolds brought with them a five match winning streak, while the Falcons brought a four match winning streak.
Eau Claire's record of 11-5 is not as good as River Falls' 7-2 record in terms of winning percentage; however, the Blugolds' 3-1 record in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matches is better than the Falcons' 1-2 WIAC record.
"It was a good match," coach Craig Monson said. "River Falls is always a scrappy team … they are scary to play some times."
At the end of the day, it was the Blugolds who extended their winning streak.
The Blugolds swept doubles competition and only allowed a total of nine points in the three doubles matches.
Junior Gina Dahl and freshman Amanda Redman won No. 1 doubles.
The No. 2 tandem of junior Brenna McCormick and junior Erin Welch only gave up one point in their victory.
"We played very well," freshman Courtney Lynne said. "It was cold and windy today; I think people handled those conditions very well."
In singles play, No. 1 player Dahl finished her matches with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. McCormick, No. 3 singles, only allowed one point in two sets, winning 6-1, and 6-0.
Freshmen Megan Born and Lynne were the only two players who were unable to come away with a victory.
"I didn't play smart tennis, but the rest of the team did really well," Lynne said.
The Blugolds will travel to Menomonie to play against UW-Stout on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Blugolds will play against UW-La Crosse in La Crosse.
The match against the Eagles will be the final of the season for the women before they compete in the WIAC Championship.
"(The WIAC tournament) is what we play for," Monson said. "It is the biggest weekend of the year. We hope to get better and peak right at that time."
The WIAC championship takes place in Madison on Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26.
In both the 2006-07 season and the 2007-08 season, the Blugolds finished second in the WIAC.
The Blugolds have finished in the top five of the WIAC every year since 1992, which includes a ten year stretch from 1993 to 2003 when the Blugolds finished in first place every year.
