Women's Cross Country
The UW-Eau Claire women's cross-country team took first place this weekend in the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invite. The Blugolds dominated the 36-team field at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
Wartburg (Iowa) took second, UW-La Crosse finished third, Carleton (Minn.) placed fourth and St. Thomas (Minn.) rounded out the top five.
The Blugold women are currently ranked second in the nation in the latest Division III poll. They held up to that ranking this weekend with four runners finishing in the top 20.
Senior Mary Palmer led the Blugolds finishing in seventh place with a time of 22:51. Junior Elly Prunty finished 14th with a time of 23:17. Right behind her was sophomore Beth Easker who finished in 15th place and just two seconds behind Prunty. Junior Hannah Humbach took 20th place with a time of 23:27. Freshman Alyssa Sybilrud rounded out the top five finishers for the Blugolds in 54th place and a time of 24:08.
The Blugold women will be back in action next weekend when they host the Blugold Open on October 3. The event will kick off at 4 p.m. at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax.
Men's Cross Country
The UW-Eau Claire men's cross-country team took part in a 31-team meet this weekend at Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.
The 23rd ranked Blugolds finished the meet in sixth place. UW-La Crosse took first place at the meet.
Senior Jules Miller was the top finisher for the Blugold runners. He finished 24th in a field of 307 runners. He finished with a time of 26:29. Junior Brent Kann finished in 29th place finishing four seconds after Miller. Senior Andy Warren finished 44th with a time of 26:59. Sophomore Tom Breitbach and freshman Ryan Bailey finished 47th and 52nd respectively. Breitbach finished with a time of 27:05 and Bailey finished with a time of 27:13.
The Blugolds also had 12 runners participate in the Olde English Classic hosted by Beloit College. The team finished second out of six schools. Freshman Brian Riley led the way with a ninth overall finish and a time of 27:50. Junior Ben Pearson finished with a time of 28:08 to finish 13th overall. Junior James Marsh finished 15th with a time of 28:16 and Freshman Kenny Fillbrandt finished 17th overall coming in with a time of 28:24. Sophomore Jake Ring rounded out the top performers with an 18th place finish and a time of 27:13.
Eau Claire will host its' annual Blugold Open next weekend at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. Racing is set to begin at 5 p.m on Friday.
