Words by Hip-hop group "Frozen Tundra" can sum up the anticipation for this year's Hip-hop Invasion: "It's time for everyone to get on the floor and release some emotion."

This is the third annual Hip-hop Invasion show and the second year Stones Throw, 304 Eau Claire St., has hosted the event.

"It's cheap, fun with a bunch of people who are trying to have a good time," performer Fathom said. "This isn't gangster rap, it's just a really fun atmosphere with a lot of people being part of the party."

Fathom is going to host the Invasion for a third year, alongside DJ Beze, who hosts Ladies' Night at the Stones Throw. There is one difference from this year and last year - students under 21 are now able to go to the earlier show from 4 to 8 p.m.

"We offered the idea to (the hosts) as long as they were willing to put in the work," said Andrew Pernsteiner, co-owner of Stones Throw.

Due to city restrictions, it's next to impossible for anyone under the age of 21 to attend concerts in Eau Claire. It's going to cost a lot of money and cause a lot of stress to make sure they're complying with all the restrictions, Pernsteiner said. Also, there is virtually no financial gain to opening their doors to the younger crowd, he added.

"It would be great to allow all ages at the shows but with the way it's currently set up, it's just not practical enough given the current legal environment to do that on a regular basis," Pernsteiner said.

After 8 p.m., the bar will have to close for one hour to make sure alcohol isn't available to the underaged.

The performers also know it will take a lot of time and money to make this show happen, but they ultimately wanted to do it.

"I'm willing to take some losses just to get some kids involved," Fathom said.

He grew up in Eau Claire and remembers hating how he wasn't allowed in the music scene until he was of drinking age. This is partly where Fathom draws inspiration.

"(My music is) somewhat angry, I rap about the struggle of not being accepted in the small town," he said.

Fathom describes his music as "raw self-expression," and that he brings his inner thoughts out to the surface.

Keeping in tradition from last year, the Invasion will feature "Scribble Jam '08," which is an MC rap battle.

"I really enjoy the battle," Pernsteiner said. "There's a lot of comedy … All the MC's know each other, and it's all in good fun."
