Men's Cross Country

The Blugolds showed their talent this weekend by taking positions in the top 10 for the UW-Whitewater Invitational, but they also got first place.

It was Junior Chris Wirtz who rapidity took the field and took the No. 1 in 27:42. In fifth place, fellow Blugold senior Jules Miller had a 28:20 time, while junior Brent Kann, senior Andy Warred and sophomore Tom Breitbach came in at seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.


Women's Cross Country

The team also took the top spot, out of the 10 teams that ran, at the UW-Whitewater

Invitational.

Senior Mary Palmer took second place with a time of 24:15. Coming in fourth was junior Hannah Humbach. Sophomore Beth Easker came in seventh, eight seconds behind came junior Elly Prunty, while sophomore Molly Woodford took the tenth stop with a time of 25:24.

Both teams will have this weekend off, and then head to St. Paul (Minn.) for the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invite on Sept. 27.


Women's Golf

On Saturday the UW-Eau Claire team tied for sixth, out of 15 teams, with two other teams for the Div. III Midwest Classic (Minn.) The Blugolds shot 356 in round one, along with the College of St. Benedict and Macalester College.

Emily Swift led the team after shooting 86, and tied for the 16th position. Freshman Katie Maurer and Sara Mattesare ad 87 strokes, which earned them a tie in the 18th position. Junior Torie Ives and freshmen Lea Jondal, both shot 90 and came in the 34th position. Freshman Jamie Hauser tied at 48 with 93 shots. Freshman Jess Spitzer had 92 shots, which landed her on the 42nd position.

Yesterday on the final day of the tournament the women tied at second place, out of 15 teams. This weekend they will travel to Bloomington (Ill.) for the Illinois Wesleyan Golf Classic.


Men's Golf

On their first day at the St. John's Invite (Minn.), Saturday, heavy rain force the tournament's first round to get cancelled.

Luckily yesterday the Blugolds got to open their new season. St. John took first place with 297 strokes, while the Blugolds had 311 strokes, which landed the team in the seventh position out of 19 teams. It was junior Ben Ziemann who got the highest ranking as he tied for 8th place with 75 strokes. Followed by sophomore Loren Churness who also tied for the 28th position with 78 shots. Freshmen Jake Brookshaw and Ryan Grip tied with 79 strokes at the 36th position.

On Sunday the Blugolds will host their annual Frank Wrigglesworth Tournament at the Eau Claire Country Club, which is scheduled to be completed on Monday.
