Student Senate
Meeting to seek student input on Davies

Students likely won't see major progress on the Davies Center reconstruction until summer 2010, but they will be able to begin steering the project as early as this month, Student Senate President Tim Lauer said after Monday's first Senate meeting of the semester.
The university will hold an open meeting for students in Davies this month, where students can offer suggestions and ideas for the new student union's design, said Lauer.
Following that and other meetings, the project's engineering firm will draw up construction designs, which will go to the project's building and steering committees for approval. The building committee will have student representation, Lauer said.
"By the end of this year," he added, "we'll have decided what we want out of the building and where it's going to be."
Lauer said he isn't sure whether the university will remodel Davies, demolish and reconstruct the building or do a combination of the two. That will be decided in the spring, he said, and will also have student input.

"until summer 2010"
Ironically some of the senators who began pushing for this project many years ago will still be on the senate (and presumably students) when the project is completed. (Continued…)
