Student associations fill campus mall to present new opportunities for everyone

Students explore different Blugold organization opportunities during UW-Eau Claire's annual Blugold Organization Bash.

The UW-Eau Claire Blugold's Organization Bash was a great resource for students again this year.

With more than half of the student organizations on campus represented, there were a variety of subjects to spark most students' interest.

Angela Bong, university coordinator for Student Leadership and Organizations, is in charge of organizing the event. She said even with only half of the campus organizations at BOB, there were still 120 groups there.

With only minor differences from previous years of the event, this year included many aspects from past bashes. A brat tent, a DJ and many other things were used to help attract people to the event.

"There are multiple goals of the Blugold's Organizations Bash," Bong said. "One main goal is for organizations to highlight the things that they do to non-members."

The event's organizers said they hoped students who attended were able to find an organization they feel strongly about or are interested in.

"This is an opportunity for the people on campus who are passionate about something to see what our organizations have to offer," Bong said. "And hopefully they find an opportunity that fits with their interests."

Students new to the school have the most to gain from the event because this was their first chance to see many of these organizations. Freshman Sam Gruber thought the event was a good resource and said the event was "just a good way to get involved on campus."

The bash was also beneficial to the different groups who participate in the event as well, especially some of the newer groups.

Sophomore and president of the group STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition Callie Dubunski said BOB is one of the best ways to attract members to their group.

"It would be a lot harder (without BOB), especially because we're such a new group," said Dubinski. "I don't think anybody would know about us."

For those who missed the fall BOB, it will return in the spring semester on Jan. 31.
