Louis Butler
Gov. Jim Doyle appointed Justice Louis Butler to the Wisconsin Supreme court in 2004.
Previously, Butler served as a judge in Milwaukee for 12 years. He is the first African American ever to serve on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
From 1979 to 1992, Butler served in the Wisconsin State Public Defender's Office as an assistant public defender.
In 1992, he was appointed as a judge on the Milwaukee County Municipal court, where he served for 10 years until his election to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in 2002.
"I have consistently upheld the U.S. and Wisconsin Constitutions, held wrongdoers accountable, and protected your rights," according to a statement from Butler on his official campaign Web site.
Mike Gableman
Mike Gableman is the Burnett County Circuit Court Judge and is running for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
A graduate of Hamline University of Law, Gableman served there as an adjunct law professor and continues to lecture on public violence.
He served as a front-line prosecutor in Marathon and Langlade Counties as an Assistant District Attorney and in 1999 was appointed as District Attorney for Ashland County.
He believes in the importance of an independent judiciary and that justice comes from administering the law.
"My election would ensure fairness, balance and independence on the bench," according to Gableman's Web site.
