Bill would preserve students' health care
Doyle expected to sign legislation aimed at those who leave school ill

"From working on the inside rather than attacking (the companies), we were able to come up with legislation that everyone supported," he said. "The only drawback to the bill would be that it could provide some additional costs to insurance companies, but we did the research and found it would only be minimal."
Rep. Jeff Smith, D-Eau Claire, said the bill looks like a good way of protecting students who run into difficulties with illness and school.
"As a compassionate society, we should be caring and willing to look out and do everything we can to support students so they can come back to school strong and healthy," Smith said. "It wasn't a very contentious bill and was well received in both chambers."
Smith said the bill will probably only impact a small percentage of students, but added it doesn't really matter that the numbers would be small.
Nygren also said very few students will be significantly impacted, but it is nevertheless an important issue that needed attention.
"We're talking about students with significant health issues," he said. "The government's job is to step in when the correct decisions aren't being made in the private sector, the opportunity was there and we took care of that responsibility."

My name is AnnMarie Morse and I am Michelle's Mom for whom the bill was named in NH. I am very pleased to see Wisconsin has added its name to the growing list of states that have implimented Michelle's Law or a version of it. (Continued…)
