The Spectator spoke with sophomore Sarah Ames, secretary of the Hobnailers.

Who are the Hobnailers?

The Hobnailers are the outdoor adventure group on campus. We plan and organize outdoor recreation trips and events. Our motto is "We play outside."

How often do the Hobnailers meet?

We meet every other Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Environmental Area Center in the basement of Hilltop Center. The meetings are mostly used to plan trips. The Hobnailers also try to teach outdoor skills at their meetings. Speakers attend meetings once or twice a semester.

What kind of events do the Hobnailers do?

The Hobnailers plan anything outdoors or trips people want to see or go on. Types of trips include rock climbing, cross country skiing, backpacking, white water rafting, canoeing and general camping. The group is also open to new ideas for trips and activities.

How does someone get involved with the Hobnailers?

Students can get involved with Hobnailers by going to the meetings. They can also visit the group's Web site at www.uwec.edu/hobnailers or contact the group via e-mail at hobnailers@uwec.edu. The group also has a Facebook group called UWEC Hobnailers.
