"I'm taking a group of friends down to the Cities and watching the movie at the IMAX Theatre," Blaeser said. "Last year I did the same thing … I originally planned for four or five people, but almost 20 people ended up going."
Sophomore Nathan Gillick, who works at the IMAX Theatre at ValleyFair in Minnesota, said he's been a huge fan of the Spider-Man series for many of the same reasons as Blaeser.
Gillick said that he's browsed a couple of the old comics and watched a few episodes of the TV show, but it's the movies that turned him into a hardcore fan.
"I don't know of anyone who doesn't like the 'Spider-Man' movies," Gillick said. "It's the perfect combination of cutting-edge action … and a deep plot.
"I love the fact that Spider-Man and the rest of the characters are larger than life, yet human … they aren't your typical 'cut and paste' characters."
So while Lee's Spider-Man franchise has grown into a worldwide phenomenon since its creation 45 years ago, the bar has also been raised that much higher for "Spider-Man 3," as well as the future of the character in general.
Peter Parker's uncle Ben, ironically, delivered a line in "Spider-Man" that may be appropriate advice for Lee and the rest of the Spider-Man team.
"With great power comes great responsibility…"
