A week after a resolution to have the Monday after Easter off failed, Vice President Meghan Charlier introduced a resolution that passed in support of McIntyre Library remaining open the night of Easter Sunday.

Library policy states the building can be closed only on legal holidays - Easter is not on the list, which means the building should remain open, according to the resolution.

"(The library) is not even following its own policy," Senator Jacob Boer said. "Academics should come first."

Charlier said the library was closed from 4:30 p.m. on April 6 until 7 a.m. April 9, and according to Attachment B of the resolution, McIntyre Library was the only one in the UW-System to be closed on April 8. UW-Madison's library was closed because of spring break and UW-Oshkosh's hours were not provided.

Senator Luke Knowles said students who stayed in Eau Claire needed the library open in order to prepare for Monday's classes.

Senate also rejected a resolution in support of oversight of the remodeling efforts in Davies' organization complex and the Student Senate office. The resolution's author, Senator Dylan Jambrek, said he did not support or oppose the remodeling, just that students should have more say in the changes.

President Ray French, who opposed the resolution, said the Senate would be overstepping its bounds significantly if the resolution passed. He also said plans for the remodeling are not finalized yet.

"We can't demand to be given voting rights (on the remodeling)," he said. "(Having voting rights) is a nice idea but the reality is it can't happen."

Senator Aaron Brewster, a member of the remodeling committee, said he has already passed Senate suggestions onto Beverly Soll, the committee's chairwoman. There is a high likelihood the plans could be redesigned, Brewster said.
