Issue date: 3/15/07 Section: Campus News
Another UW-Eau Claire student has died following a traffic accident Friday near Macon, Ga.
Senior Jason Schluter, 23, of Lyndon Station died Tuesday morning at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, according to a university-wide e-mail from the University News Bureau.
Schluter is the second student to die as a result of the accident. Former junior Jason Buchmeier, 21, of Mauston died Friday when an airborne tire from a semi tractor-trailer hit the minivan Schulter was driving.
According to the News Bureau, Schluter was able to pull the van over after the accident, which probably saved additional lives, authorities said.
Funeral services for Buchmeier are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mauston United Methodist Church in Mauston. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., Wednesday and one prior to the service at the church.
Flags at the university will fly at half-staff Thursday - the day of Buchmeier's funeral. Funeral services for Schluter have not yet been announced.

My sincerest condolences to both the Schulter and Buchmeier families on the tragic loss of their sons. My heart aches for both families. May they find peace and hope in the care and concern of others in the days ahead. (Continued…)
