"(The Minnesota schools) haven't played a lot so the rankings might change," he said. "If we play Minnesota schools, we have to beat them."
The Blugolds will be tested by some unfamiliar opponents when they head to Orlando, Fla., over spring break in a few weeks. Geissler said she thinks a few of the teams might be ranked nationally, which would be good competition for the team.
"Spring break is a lot fun, it will be nice to see where we are at compared to the rest of the country," she said. "We don't really know what to expect from anybody. We will just show up and see how it goes."
After the trip to Orlando, the Blugolds will face Bethel College (Minn.) in an exhibition match at the end of the month and St. Kate's (Minn.) on April 1. The following weekend is the Midwest Invite that both Monson and Geissler said is the team goal to get to right now.
The Blugolds will have to do well to play beyond that tournament. Monson said his team has a very slight chance of making it to Nationals in May.
"(The chances are) very slim, it would be surprising if we did but we're working for it," he said. "Right now we're developing for the future. We have a great bunch of players - they all get along well. We have a great mix of veteran leadership from the seniors and juniors and the freshmen really came on. It's been perfect."
