Spectator staff shouldn't endorse candidates
Saienga, Mark
Issue date: 3/9/06 Section: Letters
I believe it is totally irresponsible of The Spectator to openly endorse a specific ticket for student body president and vice president. While alternative media exists on campus in the form of The Flip Side, it does not have the circulation or the frequency of The Spectator.
The paper, then, can be considered the primary media outlet on campus. To use that power of influence to openly declare (even in opinion) which ticket is "best" for the student body, especially the day elections begin, is pushy, disrespectful of students' rights to make their own decisions, pretentious and, again, totally irresponsible.
This is a breach of the ideal of providing unbiased information to your readers in an effort to help them make informed decisions. What possessed you to believe that foisting your vote on us was healthy journalism?
