Junior Andrea Rude performs a bar routine for judges at the meet against UW-Oshkosh on Friday in McPhee Center. Rude received a score of 7.6 that night and the team scored 175.975 to 171.550 for a win in the last home meet of the season.

With chalk dust filling the air and music blasting through the speaker system, fans and spectators filed into the bleachers of the McPhee Center gymnasium while every gymnast had a battle going on inside of her.

That inner silence was stress and nervousness, senior Chelsey Brickweg said.

"We're all nervous for our teammates, but we know we'll be okay," she said. "We do everything a lot at practice and we're confident that we'll do well. It's fun with the music going and the whole team supporting you, even though you get nervous."

This being the team's last home meet, it was particularly special because it was Parents Night as well as Senior Night, in which parents of the gymnasts and seniors on the team were honored.

"It went really well because we had tons of fans and tons of support from people," Brickweg said. "It was fun because of Parents Night and Senior Night."

The team faced off against UW-Oshkosh in its final home meet, competing in the vault, the uneven bars, floor exercise and the balance beam.

The Blugolds beat the Titans in three of the four events, only falling to the Titans in the uneven bars 42.05 to 41.6.

Eau Claire also was the only team with gymnasts who competed in the All-Around category, which is when gymnasts compete in all four of the events.

In between each event the teams, depending on which finished its event first, would watch the other team, take a breather and prepare themselves for the next event.

"I think that with bars and beam we had a couple falls," Brickweg said. "I know that we'll be practicing to improve those things."
The team's success in the vault and the balance beam were notable, 45.275 to 44.1 for the vault and 43.05 to 41.875 for the balance beam. But it was the women's performance in the floor exercises, 46.05 to 43.525, that gave them the win.
