Another student heavily using the Internet to download music is sophomore Dru Korab. He estimated between 8,000 to 9,000 songs are on his computer.

"I heard about the RIAA trying to attack peer-to-peer users about a year-and-a-half ago, so I stopped sharing about a year ago," he said.

None of the students have stopped downloading music though.

"I can still download songs," said Cantillon, who has about 700 songs on her computer. "I figure as long as I'm not sharing, nothing can happen."

Fries chose the opposite approach, choosing not to download at all. She hasn't used Kazaa since the day she read Rose's e-mail.

Rose warned the copyrighted material must be deleted to comply with his e-mail. He added that informational campaigns in the future would aim to show students they're breaking the law by downloading the music files.

Korab said he's just evolved the way he downloads music and said, "I haven't indulged in downloading in the past two months."

Stopping file sharing and downloading have left Fries with little to do on her computer.

"I feel so lost," Fries said. "That's all I used to do with my computer."
