Women's hockey prepares for season

Blugolds look to rebound from last year's late-season collapse

By Nick Gourdoux

The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team's 2008-2009 season ended a little more than eight months ago in a 0-4 loss to Lake Forest College (Ill.). The team had been 13-10-3 before the season-ending loss, but the record alone doesn't accurately represent the team's performance. After the first 15 games, the Blugolds had an impressive 10-3-2 record and ranked as high as No. 9 in the country.

Going streaking

By Nick Gourdoux and Frank Pellegrino

Last week, Frank once again managed one more accurate prediction than Nick - three and two respectively - and maintains a .150 advantage in overall prediction percentage. Nick, on the other hand, still has the longest streak of the season with five, compared to Frank's long of four. The only prediction the two sports editors differed on last week was whether or not the UW-Eau Claire soccer team would score first against UW-Oshkosh. They did, and that's how Frank got his one-prediction advantage.

Blugolds take Homecoming victory

Football team scores 34-26 over Platteville

By McLean Bennett

The victory, which put the Blugolds at 1-2 in the WIAC and 3-3 overall this season, didn't come without some turbulence. Things didn't start well for the Blugolds, who turned the ball over on an interception just two and a half minutes into their opening drive. Platteville converted the turnover for a field goal to take a quick 3-0 lead.
