Chancellor orders hiring freeze to help curb proposed state cuts

Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich announced Wednesday in a memo to all employees that the vice chancellor for Administration, Finance and Facilities position has been eliminated. The announcement comes just one week after Levin-Stankevich enforced a campus hiring freeze to slow down the effects of the state budget's proposed $8.6 million cut in funding to UW-Eau Claire over the next two years.

An expulsion over a minor citation? One student says proposed changes to the UW System's rules could make it a possible scenario, but a System spokesperson disagrees. According to a recent Senate resolution, the revisions would make students punishable for violating state and federal laws, as well as for "serious or repeated violations of municipal law.

Site chosen for location of new Davies Center

Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich decided on the location for the new Davies Center last Tuesday, saying it will go behind the current student union between McIntyre Library and the School of Nursing Building. "Having the building set off by green space leading up to it and having the little Niagara seemed really appealing to me," Levin-Stankevich said.

Month to feature women's issues

Herstory Month events will focus on feminism and highlight environmental problems

Throughout March, UW-Eau Claire is hosting a series of presentations and events as part of Women's Herstory Month on campus, a month dedicated to honoring the contributions of women and celebrating the event nationally. The event is sponsored by different organizations on campus and coordinated by the Women's and Gender Equity Center.

Students won bid to hold the conference at the university, show off school

After much preparation, UW-Eau Claire students won a bid to host the Wisconsin United Residence Hall Association (WURHA) annual conference in 2010. These students began working in late October with regular meetings, outlining and finally putting together a presentation that they presented at the WURHA 2009 conference.
