Flawed footwear

While convenient, flip-flops cause strain, other painful health issues

When the weather is warm, it's nearly impossible to find a college-aged student without flip-flops. But, despite their popularity, the soft-soled, thong-strapped sandals cause more problems than they're worth, doctors say. Freshmen Samantha Kopet and Shelby Mikutowski said they wear their flip-flops daily, for everything from walking to class, running errands, shopping at the mall and heading to the beach.

Modified foods cause labeling concerns

Senior Corey Hilber summed up his feelings on genetically modified organisms in one simple statement. "You can't trust a tomato anymore," he said. Hilber's comment pertains to the United States labeling system. According to the Food and Drug Administation, there must be something tangibly different about the food product, not the food making process, for the FDA to require labeling.

While millions of Indians sit homeless as the surge recedes, as Haitians and Jamaicans rebuild homes and bury the lost, and as our Gulf Coast soaks in a broth of waste and destruction, it is impossible to ignore the power of water. As college students we have begun to expect more from both our minds and our bodies and we must not forget the abilities and the necessity of this three-part chemical.
