City Council results display low student voter turnout

Months prior to Tuesday's City Council election, former Student Senate President Adrian Klenz said he would have to get a historic student turnout in order to defeat incumbent Toby Biegel for the District 3 seat. But on Tuesday, that vote never materialized.

The Service Learning Ad-Hoc Committee Friday approved its recommendation to University Senate, completing a proposal that includes a new mission statement, a chart of goals and objectives and a list of specific guidelines for service-learning projects. After more than two months of deliberation, the committee came to what member Tom Hilton said is a compromise that "reflects the spirit of a university or academic community such as our own.

If Gov. Jim Doyle's proposed budget for the 2005-2007 biennium passes in June, students in the UW System may pay 5 to 7 percent more for college tuition, Rep. Rob Kreibich, R-Eau Claire, said during his listening session Monday in the Arrowhead Room in Davies Center.

On a stage there is a group of percussionists wearing colorful dress and playing ethnic drums from around the world. Slowly the beat intensifies as dancers suddenly emerge and move to the beat. The drummers then interact with the dancers as if part of an energetic tribal ballet.

After he was handed his gavel, new Student Senate President Aaron Olson left his podium to address the new senators of the 49th session from the center of room. An animated Olson annunciated each word clearly and directly as he gave his charge to the new Senate.

Interim chancellor views rising tuition as opportunity to maintain excellence

With eight students and six faculty members filing into the President's Room of Davies Center anticipating the Chancellors Roundtable, they were greeting by a different sight for the first time since 1998 -- a new chancellor. Interim Chancellor Vicki Lord Larson, who replaced Chancellor Emeritus Donald Mash March 7, made her way around the table, greeting everyone before opening the meeting.
