Women's golf team works past differences to succeed together

Women's golf does not seem like it would involve a lot of controversy, but Eau Claire's team has had its share. With a new coach this year and a group compiled of very different women, the team is trying to leave its past behind. Seniors Katie Hommen, Maureen Montbriand, Kristi Moss and Erika Hiscox have endured some difficult times as part of the team but it all worked out in the end.

Wednesday's showers led to the postponement of two games at UW-Superior but not before the women's softball team picked up a pair of big wins in Menomonie. The Blugolds (15-11 overall, 9-1 WIAC) snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday by sweeping a doubleheader with UW-Stout, 8-5, 1-4.

When freshman right fielder Larry David's two-out, bases-loaded double found the gap in left center in the second inning of Tuesday's game at Carson Park, it looked like the club baseball team was ready to end its season-long slump. When sophomore Paul Droegemueller's two-run single led Eau Claire to a 4-run fifth inning to give the team a 9-4 lead, the game looked even more secure.

With a crushing win over St. Mary's University (Minn.) last Thursday, UW-Eau Claire's men's tennis team hopes to keep its winning streak alive in a dual meet with UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater this weekend in Oshkosh. After starting the season 1-4, the Blugolds won 10 of their last 12 matches and are now 11-6 in dual meets.

Men golfers finish in fifth

After sitting in third place after the first two rounds of the Jack Wallace Memorial Tournament, the men's golf team slipped on the third day to finish fifth out of 10 teams. The Blugolds, who shot a 600 over the first two days of the tournament, shot a final-round 306 as a team to finish 28 shots behind first-place Indian Hills Community College (Iowa).

Women's golf team ends one stroke out

In a close, three team finish, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team just missed the championship in the Lewis University Spring Classic this weekend. The Blugolds ended up finishing second in a meet where the top three teams were within two strokes of one another.
