In the referendum concluding Wednesday night, students approved the two questions put before them.

The first question asked whether students wanted to maintain current services under the programs, costing an additional $45 per year.

The second asked if students approve an increase in those programs at an added cost of $15 per year, for a total increase from the current $60 to $120 per year.

A 21-year-old Kirkwood Community College student, Chris VanSpeybroeck, of Colona, Ill., died Monday at St. Luke's Hospital "due to complication of bacterial meningitis," according to Michael Van Hoe, of the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. in East Moline, Ill.

According to the online obituary VanSpeybroeck was attending Kirkwood pursuing his Associate of Science degree in fire science.

There are some things you just need to see, and some places you just have to go when you make a trip to Duluth. The city is a great tourist destination for a wide variety of different interests, including its food and nightlife. It has many well-known establishments, such as The Pickwick, Fitger's and Coney Island, but Duluth is lacking some more common restaurants that many other cities take for granted.

A new transaction system for auxiliary points on the Macalester Plaid Pass and a laundry catastrophe in the Kirk basement have left several Macalester students with soggy sheets and slightly bigger credit card bills.

Card Service Manager Onenee Saloka said the school recently started using Manage My ID, or MMID, a Web-based system that allows people to add money to their aux.
